About the Role January's engineering teams are scaling rapidly to meet ambitious technical challenges across borrower experience, client operations, and compliance infrastructure. As a Software Engineer, you'll own end-to-end delivery of meaningful features that directly impact how millions of people interact with debt resolution. Current teams hiring: - Borrower Support (BSUP) — resolving issues, explaining options, and guiding borrowers through our products across channels including call centre and Voice AI - Borrower Acquisition (BACQ) — running campaigns, testing new channels, and refining the funnel - Borrower Activation (BACT) — owns end-to-end borrower onboarding through application, verification, and enrollment - Client Experience (CX) — owns client relationships, reporting, and communication - Compliance and Money Ops (CMO) — financial and compliance backbone, payment processing Key Responsibilities - Independently scope, design, and ship features across the stack - Translate product requirements into technical solutions, probing for edge cases and constraints - Write maintainable, well-tested code and provide thoughtful code review feedback - Actively use AI tools (Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT) to accelerate development velocity Requirements - 3–5 years of backend software engineering experience - Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (Python, Java, Go, or similar) - Solid understanding of APIs, databases, and web technologies - Experience providing constructive code review feedback - Computer Science degree Bonus Skills - Interest in fintech, consumer finance, or mission-driven companies - Experience making technical decisions that balance delivery speed with long-term system health - Active experimentation with AI development tools
