About the Role We are hiring Senior Software Engineers to help shape the future of January's platform. Senior Engineers at January are backend-leaning but able to traverse the full stack — they own product outcomes, set technical direction, and mentor others. Current teams hiring: - Borrower Acquisition — scaling communication platforms to reach the right borrowers at the right time - Borrower Activation — developing features in the Borrower Portal to help people resolve accounts - Compliance and Money Operations — ensuring financial systems are accurate, scalable, and compliant - Consumer Conversation (CONVO) — ideal candidate has LLM and/or AI agent experience - Client Experience (CX) — ideal candidate has data integration or client-facing experience Key Responsibilities - Design and implement scalable systems that serve millions of borrowers and financial partners - Contribute to architecture and roadmap planning, influencing the direction of core projects - Lead by example through engineering excellence, best practices, and high code quality - Mentor junior engineers - Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Operations Requirements - 5+ years of professional software development experience - Strong technical expertise (stack includes Python, React, Postgres, AWS — diverse backgrounds welcome) - Experience building and maintaining production-grade systems at scale - Computer Science degree - Strong communication skills (writing-first engineering culture) Bonus Skills - Product-oriented mindset - Experience migrating large systems - Proven system design / architecture skills - Strong people leadership within team and cross-functionally
